Biohit's production plants are located in Kajaani and Helsinki, Finland. The sales and marketing subsidiaries are located in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the U.K. and the U.S. Biohit's global distributor network covers altogether approx. 450 members in 70 countries. Moreover, Biohit co-operates with such multinational companies as Beckman Coulter, Becton Dickinson, bioMérieux, Johnson & Johnson and 3M.
In 2001 Biohit's MEUR 25.5 net sales was generated primarily by the sales of liquid handling products and maintenance. Exports accounted for 96% of the group net sales, and the degree of domestic production was approx. 95%. In 2001 51 % of the net sales were generated in the European countries, 25% in North America and the remaining 24 % primarily in Asia.

Biohit's liquid handling product range covers electronic and mechanical pipettors and their disposable tips. The liquid handling product range developed and manufactured by Biohit is the widest in the world today. Biohit is also the global market leader of electronic pipettors and the leading manufacturer of electronic OEM – liquid handling devices in the world.
In the area of electronic liquid handling , Biohit's most recent product launch is the eLINE®. The eLINE® is a new generation of electronic pipettors which represents the latest technology in the field of hand-held liquid handling devices . The product family was developed for most demanding liquid handling application offering, e.g., eleven liquid handling protocols for the various needs of modern laboratories. The eLINE® microprocessor control and its novel construction, enable maximum liquid handling performance with very high levels of accuracy and precision.
Biohit's most recent product launch in the area of mechanical pipettors is the mLINE™. The mLINE™ pipettor family was designed to meet the strictest performance criteria while, due to its light weight and ergonomical design; it contributes to reducing the risk of repetitive strain injuries.
Diagnostics
In the area of diagnostics Biohit develops and manufactures enzyme immunoassay (EIA) –based test kits and monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) for the screening of different types of diseases.
Biohit's diagnostic product range encompasses the following tests: Gastric test panel (GastroPanel™) for diagnosing Helicobacter pylori –infection and atrophic gastritis as well as for screening the risk of gastric cancer and peptic ulcer from blood samples, and a test for the systemic lupus erythematosus.
Biohit's GastroPanel™-test and related software (GastroSoft®) for the interpretation of the results of the GastroPanel™ can replace gastroscopy as the initial method when examining patients suffering from stomach pain and discomfort (dyspepsia). Gastroscopy is relatively expensive, may be uncomfortable for the patient and cannot be performed on all occasions due to limited healthcare resources.
The GastroPanel™ and GastroSoft® are well suited for routine use by general practitioners and specialists for examining patients suffering from dyspepsia or those belonging to the risk groups of atrophic gastritis, gastric cancer or peptic ulcer. The GastroSoft® -program gives recommendations for treatment and further examination as well as an assessment of the need and urgency of gastroscopy.
Biohit's product area of instruments covers microplate readers and washers. The instruments together with liquid handling devices and diagnostic tests enable Biohit to offer complete analyzing systems for different types of laboratories. |
